          Earl J. McGrath (1902-1993) became the third president of the University of Kansas City, where he served from 1953 to 1956.

          McGrath was born on November 16, 1902, in Buffalo, New York. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree (1928) and Master of Arts degree (1930) from the University of Buffalo. He received his doctorate from the University of Chicago in 1936.



          During World War II, McGrath served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, in charge of educational services including the wartime V-12 college training program and its off-duty study program in the Bureau of Naval Personnel.
